Invent the Future with Elements of the Past

12 artists from Zurich on a walk with Lucius Burckhardt
Project by STEO Foundation, in cooperation with Hans Ulrich Obrist

Exhibition 20.03. – 12.07.2015

Twelve participating Swiss artists, under the guidance of curator Adrian Notz and commissioned by STEO Foundation, undertake a two week pilgrimage to Venice. The idea was to bring Venice to Zurich. The project took place in between September and November 2014. The mission was a visit by Hans Ulrich Obrist, who curated the Swiss Pavillion, to research sociologist Lucius Burckhardt (1925 – 2003). Burckhardt’s work is still an inspiration to new generations.

This project took place in Zurich. It was based on Venetian research, which served as a point of departure for this project “Invent the Future with Elements of the Past”. The twelve participating Swiss artists developed projects which tied in with the exhibition at the Swiss pavilion in Venice, whereby the spirit of Burckhardt was the leading link for an artistic interpretation.
